Panduan Untuk Para Wanita
This valuable treatise, The Women’s Guide, is composed of several letters and conversations by Bediüzzaman Said Nursi addressed to women, along with selected sections from the Risale-i Nur Collection. It includes important topics such as modesty, maternal compassion, family harmony, and spiritual responsibility. The work consists of several key parts:
A Dialogue with a Group of Women
Requests from the Treatise on the Elderly
The Twenty-Fourth Flash (The Treatise on Modesty)
The Seventh Letter
A section from The Thirty-Second Word
The Seventeenth Letter (A Consolation for the Loss of a Child)
Letters from Female Students of the Risale-i Nur
One of the foundational themes of the Risale-i Nur is compassion, and because women are naturally endowed with deep compassion, they have an innate connection to this spiritual path. A mother, for instance, is willing to sacrifice her own life to save her child without expecting anything in return. This instinctive and selfless love, if rightly directed, has immense spiritual power—it can save both this worldly life and the eternal life of a mother. But if misused, or if directed only to worldly aims, it can have the opposite effect.
A mother who is extremely attentive to her child’s worldly education and success might neglect the child’s eternal future. Failing to nourish the child’s faith could lead to spiritual harm, turning the child from a possible intercessor in the afterlife into a source of regret. Conversely, a mother who uses her compassion to protect her child from spiritual ruin receives a share in all the good deeds the child performs, even after her own death.
The treatise also explores the deep spiritual bond between husband and wife. This connection is not limited to the worldly life but extends to eternal companionship in the hereafter. Therefore, loyalty and modesty in the relationship are essential. A believing man maintains respect and affection for his wife even in old age, and a woman should also preserve her beauty and affection primarily for her husband. True beauty lies not in outward appearance, but in sincerity, character, and heartfelt compassion—qualities that endure.
Another vital theme of the work is love for the sake of Allah. From parental love to appreciation of nature, everything should be directed toward the Divine. Whether it is the enjoyment of food, affection for family, or admiration of nature, all love becomes meaningful and spiritually rewarding only when it is understood as a reflection of Allah’s mercy and beauty. This perspective protects the heart from attachment to fleeting appearances and allows for a sincere connection with the Divine.
In conclusion, this guide calls on women to embrace their spiritual role with sincerity, to educate their children in faith, and to navigate family life with love, modesty, and a sense of eternal responsibility. Its message is a reminder that every act of compassion, when directed by faith, becomes a path to eternal success.
